FAQ
What is Intuitive Eating?
A research-backed, non-diet approach to food + nutrition that’s healthy for both your body and your mind. Intuitive Eating can help you foster a healthy relationship with food and with your body by rejecting the diet mentality, increasing your awareness of your bodily cues, and silencing the "food police" voice in your head. There are 10 Principles of Intuitive Eating that form the framework. You can learn more here.
Who are your clients?
Since becoming a mom, I have been especially interested in working with pregnant and postpartum individuals as our appetites, bodies, and identities go through massive shifts during this period. My clients include first-time parents and parents of multiple young children. I work with busy working parents and (also busy!) stay at home parents. I also love working with parents, grandparents, and other caregivers with young children who hope to prevent passing along any food issues to their kids.
Are there any potential clients you don't work with?
There are some situations where I do not have the appropriate expertise to help:
-
active and/or untreated eating disorder — you should work with a care team that includes a medical doctor, psychologist/psychiatrist, and a certified eating disorder specialist.
-
medical nutrition therapy for medical conditions like diabetes or kidney disease — you will need to see a Registered Dietitian for this; I can provide Intuitive Eating support alongside your RD.
When in doubt, just reach out and we'll figure it out!
Can you help me lose weight?
The main purpose of Intuitive Eating is to cultivate a healthy relationship with food, both mentally and physically. It is a weight-neutral model, meaning the focus is not on body size but rather on healing your relationship with food. If you desire to lose weight, that's very common; we can discuss the root of that desire and how it's impacting your well-being, but intentional weight loss will not be a specific goal of our work.
How many sessions will I need?
It depends on your situation and your goals. Most clients notice progress after just a few sessions, although it can take several months to solidify new habits and make deeper changes to your relationship with food and your body. Typically if you’ve spent years dieting and trying to control your body through food, it will take longer to unlearn those behaviors + thought patterns and build new, healthier habits. There's no long-term commitment required and we’ll regularly assess your progress and determine the right next steps for you.
How much do your services cost?
It's important to me that my services are accessible, so I offer flexible pricing and regularly take pro bono clients. We'll discuss pricing during the free consultation, or you can contact me to learn more.
Do you take insurance?
Unfortunately, not at this time. Most insurance carriers do not cover Intuitive Eating counseling.
Do you see clients in-person?
I primarily see clients virtually, either by phone or video chat (whichever you prefer). If you are in the Portland, OR area, I’m happy to discuss meeting in person!
Do you offer group programs?
I am not offering group programs at this time, but I plan to in the future! If you’re interested in group sessions and would like to be notified when they launch, please reach out here.
